Three photographers from Mshomoroni,Mombasa county were violently robbed after being lured to a fake birthday event by criminals posing as clients in Nyali area yesterday.
According to a report filed at Kadzandani Police Station through Mbungoni Police Post, the incident occurred at about 6:30 pm in the Marhaba area.
The victims were identified as Ian Musau Kamba, Kelvin Bosire and Rafael Monari all residents of Mshomoroni.
The three reportedly received a phone call from an unknown man claiming he needed photography and video coverage for a birthday celebration.
Believing it to be genuine work, the photographers travelled to the agreed location while being guided through phone communication by the supposed client.
However, upon arrival, the caller emerged alongside three other accomplices armed with pangas and immediately turned against them.
The gang threatened and assaulted the victims before stealing their professional equipment and personal items.
Stolen items included a strobe valued at Sh45,000, a Canon 250D camera worth Sh68,000, two camera lenses valued at Sh45,000, a camera stand worth Sh4,000, a diffuser valued at Sh500, a power bank, an iPhone 13 mobile phone valued at Sh48,000, another camera worth Sh150,000, speed lights valued at Sh2,000 and an additional lens worth Sh15,000.
During the attack, Ian sustained bruises on the left hand, Kelvin suffered injuries on the right elbow, while Rafael sustained a head injury near the right upper ear.
Police patrol officers visited the scene immediately after the robbery, but no suspects had been arrested and none of the stolen items had been recovered by the time of the report.
The victims were advised to seek medical treatment as detectives from DCI Nyali launched investigations into the incident.
