Police repel suspected Al-Shabaab attack on Mandera camp

Police officers stationed at Sheikhbarrow Camp in Lafey, Mandera County on Monday evening,repulsed an attempted attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.

According to a police incident report filed yesterday,the attackers launched the assault at around 6.45 pm from the northern side of the camp.

The assailants, described as an unknown number of suspected Al-Shabaab militants, reportedly used Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs) and firearms believed to machine guns during the attack.

Police officers attached to the camp responded immediately and engaged the militants, managing to repel them after an exchange that lasted about 10 minutes.

They confirmed that no casualties, injuries, or damage were reported during the incident, and the situation was later brought under control.

The matter is currently being handled by the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit in Elwak, with security teams were expected to conduct further clearance operations in the area on today morning.
