A 53 year old madrasa teacher who had been reported missing in Tana River County has been found alive in Mwingi Town.
His search and recovery has brought relief to his family after days of uncertainty and an intensive search by detectives.
According to a follow up report from Madogo Police Station, Nassir Kuyo Mhamari was traced and rescued on Thursday by officers from the Directorate of Criminal DCI Bangale Sub-County following his disappearance on June 7.
Investigations revealed that Mhamari was teaching at a duksi within Samira Mosque in Madogo at around 8:30 a.m. when he was approached by an unknown man who claimed to have a sick person requiring prayers.
He reportedly accompanied the stranger to a Probox vehicle of unknown registration number where the alleged patient was waiting.
The victim later stated that while praying for the patient, he lost consciousness and subsequently found himself confined inside the vehicle.
He alleged that he was transported to an unknown location and held captive for four days.
During his captivity, the suspects reportedly demanded a ransom of Sh1.2 million for his release.
On June 10 at about 10:00 a.m., Mhamari was allegedly abandoned near Mwingi Level Four Hospital in Mwingi Town.
DCI officers conducting search operations found him appearing weak and disoriented and immediately facilitated his admission to the hospital for medical attention.
After receiving treatment, he was reunited with his family and was reported to be in stable condition.
