Football Fans Vandalise Afraha Stadium Construction Site After Governor Kihika Address

Police in Nakuru East have launched investigations into an incident of vandalism and theft at the Afraha Stadium construction site after football fans allegedly turned violent following a public event on Saturday evening.

According to a report recorded at Bondeni Police Station yesterday evening, the incident occurred at the Free Hold area.

The matter was reported by Samson Kogo, a security guard attached to Afraha Stadium.

He stated that at around 6.30pm, football fans from Bondeni and Kivumbini areas were leaving the stadium after winning teams had been presented with gifts during a football event.

Witnesses indicated that after Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika concluded her address and left the venue, a section of the crowd became agitated, allegedly demanding money.

The group reportedly turned violent and advanced towards the iron sheet perimeter fence surrounding the stadium’s construction site.

The rowdy fans vandalised sections of the perimeter wall, with some managing to remove and steal iron sheets from the site before police officers intervened and restored order.

Police said the extent of the damage and the value of the stolen materials have not yet been established.

No arrests were immediately reported.
