A 65 year-old man has been found dead in an apparent suicide incident in Busia County after reportedly leaving home following a domestic dispute with his wife.

According to a police report, the incident was reported at Busia Police Station on Wednesday morning by Bugengi Sub-location Assistant Chief Evans Otieno.

The administrator said he had received information from the deceased’s wife, Seline Atieno Otieno, a resident of Waviu Village.

According to the administrator, the deceased wife told her that she and her husband, Julius Otieno Onyango, had quarrelled on Tuesday night over a wheelbarrow.

Following the disagreement, Onyango reportedly left home at around 9:00 p.m., allegedly stating that he intended to take his own life and that his body would be found on a jackfruit tree.

The following morning at about 8:00 a.m., a neighbour, Peter Vincent Egesa, discovered Onyango’s body hanging from the tree and alerted local authorities.

Police officers from Busia Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the scene and confirmed the incident.

The area was processed and documented by Busia County Scenes of Crime personnel, who did not recover any suicide note.

The body was moved to Busia County Referral Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with DCI Busia handling the case.
