A group of about 40 women, accompanied by several men, staged a peaceful protest at Ndugamano Shopping Centre in Tetu, Nyeri County, on Monday evening, demanding the removal of a barmaid they accused of repeatedly assaulting men and disrupting families.

The protesters said the barmaid was snatching their husbands.

According to a police report filed at Ndugamano Police Station, officers led by the OCS responded in the evening after loud screams were heard near Savanna Bar. On arrival, officers found the crowd demonstrating outside the premises over allegations against the barmaid, identified as Caudecio Wanjiru.

Protesters said she had assaulted a young man the previous day and accused her of being involved in similar incidents in the past. Some members of the crowd also alleged that she had contributed to marital disputes in the area.

The situation was brought under control after the crowd was addressed by the OCS, area Assistant Chief Elijah Muthungu, and aspiring MCA Njuki. The leaders appealed for calm, and the protesters agreed to disperse.

The crowd left the area at around 7:00 p.m. No injuries, property damage, or other incidents were reported during the demonstration, and police said the situation remained calm after dispersal.
