Ezekiel Kyama Nzyoki, known online as “Mr Speaker Sir,” was today arraigned at Milimani Law Court over claims he broke into Parliament Buildings and destroyed government property valued at Sh41 million.
Prosecutors told the court that on June 25, 2024, Kyama allegedly broke a section of the perimeter wall around the parliamentary complex and entered the restricted area.
State counsel said that once inside, he vandalized flag posts at the mausoleum of founding President Jomo Kenyatta.
He is also accused of damaging kitchenware, a TV screen, and IT equipment within the precincts.
The prosecution told the court the total loss from the destruction exceeds Sh41 million, affecting a protected government installation.
Kyama denied all charges when he appeared before the magistrate.
His lawyers, Babu Owino and Gordon Ogado, asked for lenient bond terms.
They told the court the accused is a fourth year student at Kenyatta University and cannot meet strict bail conditions.
Owino said he was in Parliament during the Gen Z protests but did not see Kyama enter the buildings.
The defence asked the court to consider his student status and grant reasonable bail pending the case.
Kyama was among over 200 protesters charged with obstruction during the June 25 Gen Z anniversary demos.
He was freed after former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko paid Ksh1,000 cash bail for several of the accused.
He was released on a personal bond of Ksh 100, 000.
