The Principal Administrative Secretary in the Executive Office of the President, Arthur Amug Osiya, has pledged to pursue a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) staff member Stephen Omunyini.
Omunyini, popularly known as Biko, died on June 11, 2026, at the age of 49 after reportedly being physically assaulted in Kisumu.
Speaking during Omunyini’s burial at Koteko Village in Malaba South Ward, Teso North Constituency, on Friday, Osiya, who is also a 2027 Busia gubernatorial aspirant, said no effort would be spared in ensuring the truth behind the incident is established.
“I spoke at length with KBC Managing Director Agnes Kalekye after receiving the shocking news of Biko’s death following an assault in Kisumu. The law should take its course to establish the cause of his death, and those responsible must be brought to justice,” Osiya told mourners.
He also urged residents to prepare for the 2027 General Election by acquiring national identity cards and registering as voters.
“Busia County faces numerous challenges, but these challenges cannot continue forever.
Ensure you have your identity cards and voter cards. When I take over the county leadership, we shall address the many challenges affecting Busia, including agriculture, healthcare, and the livelihoods of our people,” he said.
Stephen, a former employee of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) Kisumu Branch, served with dedication and professionalism.
His unexpected departure has left a deep void in the lives of his family, friends, former colleagues, and the community.
Osiya urged the people of Busia County to remain united and reject those who seek to divide them along tribal lines. “

In a condolence message read on her behalf by KBC Western Region Controller Odongo Wandago, KBC Chief Executive Officer Agnes Kalekye described Omunyini as a dedicated and dependable member of the corporation.
“Stephen Omunyini was not just a driver in the Finance and Administration Department; he was a quiet pillar of our daily lives. He joined KBC in August 2023, and in that short time, he became much more than a colleague.”
“He was the calm, reassuring person many of us relied on and the steady hand we trusted without a second thought. Steve never sought the spotlight, but his light shone brightly in the quiet moments,in the way he listened, in the care he took with every task, and in the respect he showed everyone he met.”
“His loss leaves a void not only in our corridors but also in our hearts. The Board and Management join me in acknowledging that we have lost a dedicated and honourable member of the KBC family,” the message stated.
Family members, friends, colleagues, local leaders, and residents attended the burial to pay their final respects to the late Omunyini, remembering him as a humble, hardworking, and dependable man whose life was cut short under tragic circumstances.
