A prison warden attached to Wajir GK Prison has been arrested following the death of his three year old son in a suspected murder incident in Wajir East.
According to police, the incident was reported shortly after midnight by the child’s mother, Fatuma Hassan Degodia, who alleged that her husband, Ibrahim Jimale Ahmed, assaulted her, forcing her to flee to a neighbour’s home for safety.
She later returned to the house accompanied by neighbours and found her three year old son, Mohamed Amin, lying unconscious with blood oozing from his mouth and nose.
The child was rushed to Wajir County Referral Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival early today.
Police said the deceased had visible injuries on the forehead suspected to have been caused by a blunt object.
Officers from Wajir Police Station, accompanied by crime scene investigators, visited and documented the scene.
The suspect,a prison warden Ahmed, was initially apprehended by members of the public before being re-arrested by police and placed in custody.
The body of the minor has been transferred to Wajir County Referral Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination as detectives from the Serious Crime Investigation unit continue with investigations.
