A district accountant attached to Sirisia Sub-County was robbed of Sh600,000 after he and a boda boda rider were abducted by an armed gang in a brazen daylight attack along the Bungoma–Chwele road on Thursday.
The incident occurred at around 12 noon in the Sikusi area.
According to police, the victims were riding on a motorcycle when they were intercepted by five men travelling in an unidentified vehicle.
One of the suspects was reportedly armed with a pistol.
The attackers allegedly forced the district accountant, Michael Ogolla, and the boda boda rider, Thomas Barasa, into their vehicle before driving them to an unknown location using a murram road.
Police said the gang robbed Ogolla the money which he had withdrawn from KCB Bungoma branch, his national identity card, a bank withdrawal slip and a Tecno Spark 8 mobile phone.
Barasa lost his M10 mobile phone and Sh390 in cash, while his motorcycle, registration KMFM 371T (TVS Star), was abandoned at the scene.
The two victims were later dumped in a maize plantation within the Kimilili area, from where they managed to find their way to Kimilili Police Station and reported the incident.
Officers from Chwele Police Station and detectives from the DCI Bungoma Central visited the scene and recovered the abandoned motorcycle.
Police have launched investigations into the robbery with violence incident as detectives pursue the armed gang.
No arrests had been made by the time of filing the report.
