Man Rescued from Mob After Superstition Allegations in Kilifi

A 49 year old man narrowly escaped death after an angry mob attacked him in Kaloleni Township, Kilifi County over allegations linked to superstition.

The incident occurred on Thursday at around 3:00 p.m. and was reported at Kaloleni Police Station by Kaloleni Area Chief Mr. Thoya.

According to the police report, the victim, identified as Jephata Okari Obars, was accused by a 52 year old man, Daniel Mrisa, of causing his manhood to allegedly “shrink” after the two had interacted.

Believing the claims, members of the public turned on Obars, pelting him with stones and inflicting serious head injuries as well as multiple injuries across his body.

Police officers from Kaloleni Police Station responded swiftly to the scene and managed to rescue the injured man from the mob before escorting him to Vishakani Dispensary for emergency treatment.

Daniel Mrisa was also taken to Mariakani Sub-County Hospital for medical examination and treatment as investigations commenced.
