Four Illegal Firearms Surrendered in Tana River

Four illegally acquired firearms and 15 rounds of ammunition have been voluntarily surrendered to a multi-agency security team in Galedyertu, Tana River County.

The local police command has described the move as aimed at enhancing peace and security in the region.

The weapons were handed over on Monday at Waldena Police Station.

They included three AK-47 rifles and one G3 rifle, all accompanied by loaded magazines containing a total of 15 rounds of ammunition.

Police said the firearms were surrendered by groups of local residents during an exercise witnessed by government officials, community elders and religious leaders.

Among those who received them were the Sub-County Security Team led by Galedyertu Deputy County Commissioner Joseph Mwangi, alongside senior security officers from the Police Service and the DCI.

Area Chief Jarso Yusuf Adhan, elders and religious leaders also attended the handover.
