A total of four more illegal firearms were voluntarily surrendered to police in Turkana East as the ongoing peaceful disarmament exercise continued to record progress in Turkana County.
According to Lokori Police Station, the firearms were surrendered by residents from Lokori, Napeitom and Nadome locations. The recovered weapons included three AK-47 rifles or their components and a G3 FMP bolt carrier.
Police said the surrendered firearms were safely secured in the station armoury pending further administrative action.
In a related development, Lokori Police Station handed over 20 illegally surrendered firearms and assorted ammunition to the Special Operations Group (SOG) for further handling.
The consignment included various AK-47 rifles and components, a G3 bolt, an FN rifle and several rounds of ammunition.
The handover forms part of the government’s ongoing intelligence-led campaign aimed at reducing the number of illegal firearms in civilian hands, enhancing security and promoting lasting peace in Turkana County, a region that has historically faced challenges linked to armed banditry and inter-community conflicts.
