A robbery incident in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area turned chaotic on Monday evening after an aspiring Member of County Assembly (MCA) was attacked by a large group of people, with a stray bullet fired during the ensuing struggle injuring an innocent matatu passenger.

According to a police report, the incident occurred at around 7.55 p.m.as California Ward MCA aspirant Aden Ibrahim was walking from Biafra Mosque towards Eastleigh Section 3.

Police said Ibrahim was suddenly accosted by a group of about 30 people who surrounded and robbed him despite his attempts to escape after raising an alarm.

The attackers reportedly stole Sh 20,000 in cash, a wallet and a Google Pixel 10 mobile phone valued at Sh 130,000.

Two police officers who were on patrol responded to the distress call but were also confronted by the hostile group during the rescue attempt.

During the confrontation, the mob allegedly attempted to snatch a Jericho pistol from one of the officers.

In the struggle, the firearm discharged one round of ammunition, striking a 32 year old passenger, identified as Emmanuel Baraza, who was seated inside a parked matatu.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the right thigh and was rushed to MSF Hospital for first aid before being referred to Ushirika Elite Hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
