A police officer deployed to provide security during the Linda Mwananchi political rally in Homa Bay on Sunday has died after sustaining serious injuries when he was struck on the head by a stone thrown by a demonstrator.
Police reports indicate that Police Constable Jimrichardson Onkudi, was on his way back after the security operation when the incident occurred.
The officer was driving a government vehicle,a Toyota Isuzu D-Max, when he was hit on the right side of the head near the ear.
He subsequently lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road and crashed into a house.
Constable Onkudi was rushed to Jeneiro Hospital in Nyangeswo for treatment before being referred to Jootrh Hospital in Kisumu due to the severity of his injuries.
He was, however, pronounced dead on arrival at the Kisumu facility.
His body was moved to Othoo Funeral Home, where it is being preserved pending post-mortem examination.
