One Kenya Pipeline Company employee has died while three others were injured following a petroleum product spillage incident at Chamber Point, near Kibigori in Muhoroni, Kisumu County.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at one of of the company facilities.
Police were alerted by Kibigori Assistant Chief Walter Abiero, prompting officers led by the local deputy OCPDD Alice Ekale and the DCIO Peter Naboru to rush to the scene and cordon it off.
Preliminary investigations established that a team of 15 Kenya Pipeline Company employees, led by Engineer Albert Nduguyu, had been conducting a leak test to verify the company’s leak detection system when the incident occurred.
Three employees, Albert Sasaka,George Odede and Peter Onyango, sustained injuries and were rushed to Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu, where they are receiving treatment.
Julius Obonyo Adie succumbed at the scene.
His body was retrieved from the valve chamber after Crime Scene Investigation officers processed and documented the scene before it was moved to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.
DCI Muhoroni is handling investigations into the incident.
