A 27 year old man has been arrested in Ikombe, Yatta, Machakos County, after attacking and seriously injuring three cattle belonging to his neighbour.
Police said the incident was reported at Ikombe Police Post on Monday after the suspect, identified as John Musembi Mule entered the complainant’s compound at around 9am.
According to the report, Musembi confronted the complainant’s son before entering the cattle boma, where he used a machete to slash three animals.
The animals, valued at a combined Sh220,000, sustained serious injuries.
A bull valued at Sh110,000 suffered deep cuts to the head and a broken hind leg, while a cow valued at Sh70,000 sustained two deep cuts on the backbone.
A heifer valued at Sh40,000 suffered a deep cut around the sacrum.
A veterinary officer examined the animals and reportedly advised that their injuries were too severe for them to survive, recommending that the owner dispose them off.
Police processed the scene, took photographs and recorded witness statements.
The suspect was later cornered by an angry crowd that wanted to set his house ablaze but was rescued by police officers.
A machete believed to have been used in the attack was recovered and kept as an exhibit.
The suspect was taken to Ikombe Police Post and is expected to face charges of cruelty to animals under the Animals Act, Cap 360.
