A 32 year old woman who was reportedly gang raped in Huruma, Nairobi, on September 16 has died while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Women’s Hospital.
Police identified the deceased as Esther Wanjiru Muthoni, who had been admitted for treatment following the reported incident.
A 25 year old suspect, identified as David Maina, has been arrested in connection with the case.
Police said Maina was last seen with the deceased while the two were having drinks at a local pub before the incident.
According to the police report, the suspect was arrested after members of the public subjected him to mob justice.
He was rescued by police officers and placed in custody pending processing.
The deceased’s body has been moved to the hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.
The case remains under investigation.
