DNK International Police in Gatundu North,Kiambu county have launched investigations following the circulation of alarming and threatening leaflets targeting nine elderly women in Kihururu Village, Kamwangi area.
The leaflets are accusing them of child killings and involvement in alleged night running activities.
Circulation of the leaflets have caused fear and tension within the village.
The leaflets according to police named the women and called for action against them which prompting swift intervention by local authorities.
Those women and all aged above 65 years have appeared at the Sub County Police Commander’s (SCPC) office accompanied by the area Chief to seek protection and clear their names.
During a consultative meeting with security officials yesterday it emerged that the women share several common traits.
They are all members of Kamwangi Catholic Church, participate in shared prayer groups, and maintain a standard of living perceived to be above average compared to other villagers.
Preliminary assessments by security officers suggest that the motive behind the threatening pamphlets may stem from fear of exposure to authorities, with the leaflets allegedly intended to intimidate and silence the women.
The accused women strongly denied all allegations and proceeded to record formal statements at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices in Gatundu North.
Police have assured residents that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest the authors of the leaflets.
In an effort to calm tensions and address public concerns, local administrators have scheduled a public baraza this Sunday,January 4 to be held in the afternoon at Kihururu Village.
Authorities have urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified claims as investigations continue.
