A man is nursing serious injuries after being brutally attacked by a mob who mistook him to be a thug at his girlfriend home in Murang’a.
The incident took place at Good Samaritan Village in Ithanga/Kakuzi, Murang’a County.
Police have described the incident as a suspected case of mob justice.
According to a report filed at Ithanga Police Station,the incident was reported at around 10:50 a.m. today by Robert Odhiambo Nyamwata,a resident of the area.
Nyamwata told police that on the night of January 2, 2026, at approximately 11:00 p.m., he went to visit his girlfriend, identified as Shiru, within the same locality.
While at her home, he allegedly heard her father shouting and accusing him of being a thief, an alarm that quickly attracted about ten members of the public.
Sensing danger, Nyamwata attempted to flee, but he was overpowered by the crowd.
During the chaos, he was viciously attacked, sustaining a deep cut to the head after being struck with a panga by one of the assailants.
He identified the attacker as a man known to him only as Peter.
The victim was later referred to Ithanga Dispensary for urgent medical treatment and examination due to the severity of his injuries.
The Officer Commanding Station (OCS), Ithanga, has taken over the case and urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
