Voting in the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) county elections in Narok was abruptly suspended on Sunday evening.
This was after chaos erupted at Ole Tipis Girls High School polling centre.
The disruption led to the arrest of two suspects.
According to police at Narok Police Station, the exercise began smoothly at 6.00am but was disrupted later in the evening when agents detected an individual allegedly impersonating a registered member in an attempt to vote.
Officers swiftly intervened and arrested Emmanuel Kipkirui in connection with the alleged impersonation.
Tensions escalated soon after, with one faction of aspirants protesting what they termed as widespread malpractices.
The disagreement quickly degenerated into chaos within the school compound, forcing police to lob three teargas canisters to disperse the crowd.
During the confrontation, a second suspect, Kelvin Langat, a teacher at Olpopongi Secondary School in Transmara, was also arrested.
Police say Langat was attempting to invade ballot boxes and allegedly inciting members to violence against election officials.
Following the unrest, the election exercise was postponed until further notice.
The two suspects were booked at Narok Police Station for their respective offences.
Police confirmed that no injuries or damage to property were reported during the incident.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities work with KUPPET officials to determine the next steps for the disrupted election exercise.
