Police in Embu have arrested a man accused of setting his grandfather’s four-bedroom semi-permanent house ablaze at Kangeta Village, Gachuriri Sub-location, Mbeere South.
The incident was reported at Gachoka Police Station on Wednesday by the area assistant Chief, Collin Kariuki.
Police who visited the scene found the house partially burnt.
The homeowner, Emilio Ngiri 70 Njeru,70 told officers that at about 1pm, while he was in the kitchen, his grandson, Morgan Mutembei, warned him that only one of his daughters would remain alive.
The suspect identified the daughter as his mother, Doris Muthoni, when the grandfather asked for clarification.
Moments later, the elderly man stepped outside and discovered that the house was on fire.
The fire had reportedly started in a room occupied by the suspect, which the grandfather had allowed him to use as his residence.
Neighbours responded after the grandfather raised an alarm and helped extinguish the fire.
However, household goods, clothes and roofing trusses were destroyed, causing property damage.
Police processed and documented the scene as investigations continue.
Mutembei was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in court to face arson charges.
