A woman in Emakunda village, Khwisero was left devastated after a mob of boda boda riders set her son’s house ablaze following claims of a stolen motorcycle.
Police at Mulwanda Police Post were informed yesterday of the incident by Maria Alisula, a resident of Emakunda village.
She told them that at around 6:30pm, a group of about 30 boda boda riders from Luanda, Vihiga County, stormed her compound demanding to see her son, Ausi Wasike, 26.
The riders accused Wasike of stealing a motorcycle, claiming a tracking device had led them to his home.
When they failed to find him, the group allegedly turned violent and set fire to his two room semi permanent house, destroying it completely together with all property inside.
Police officers from Khwisero Police Station rushed to the scene at Kisa West Location.
Investigations confirmed that the house had been deliberately burnt by the mob.
In a related development, a second suspect, Steven Aoma, 25, also linked to the incident, voluntarily surrendered at Mulwanda Police Post.
He has been placed in custody pending handover to police officers from Vihiga County.
Police have opened the case as Pending under investigation as efforts continue to trace the main suspect and identify other members of the mob.
Police have condemned the incident, warning against mob justice and urging the public to report suspected crimes to the police.
