Sumra leads Mukuru kwa Njenga Residents in Seeking Ruto’s Intervention on demolitions.

By Our Correspondent,Mukuru.

Officials of the Mukuru kwa Njenga Structures Owners Association have appealed to President William Ruto to intervene and help find a permanent solution to the ongoing demolitions in the informal settlement.

Led by former Embakasi South MP who is also their chairman Irshad Sumra the leaders during a press conference said that area residents were living in fear following repeated demolitions of houses in the area.

They urged the President to grant them an audience to address the crisis and chart a long term solution.

The officials are also calling on the government to facilitate the issuance of title deeds to genuine structure owners, saying this would pave the way for permanent housing development and protect residents from arbitrary evictions.

Sumra vowed to continue defending the residents until a lasting solution is achieved, noting that many families have lived in Mukuru kwa Njenga for decades and have invested their life savings in the settlement.

He blamed the demolitions on alleged land cartels, accusing them of using intimidation to force residents off the land.

Sumra claimed that relevant authorities, including the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), have distanced themselves from the demolitions and denied any involvement.

Residents are now hoping the national government will step in to end the demolitions and provide clarity on land ownership in one of Nairobi’s largest informal settlements.
