A multi agency security team in Mombasa has recovered a large consignment of suspected narcotic drugs and arrested three suspects following an early morning operation in Jomvu Sub-County.
According to police, officers from the National Police Service Coast region, led by the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) Mombasa, were acting on intelligence when they intercepted a motor vehicle along the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway in the Bonje area.
The vehicle, a white Mercedes Actros truck trailer was stopped about six kilometres from Jomvu Police Station.
A search of the truck led to the recovery of three sacks containing rolls of a green dry plant substance suspected to be cannabis.
The drugs, which had been concealed inside the cabin of the vehicle, weighed approximately 140 kilograms and are estimated to have a street value of Sh 4.2 million.
Three occupants of the vehicle were arrested at the scene.
Police identified them as Mohammed Omondi, aged 49, Lilian Achieng Ochieng, aged 36, and Patrick Wambua, aged 30.
Investigations indicate that the vehicle had originated from the Malaba border and was headed to Mombasa.
The suspects, together with the motor vehicle and the recovered substance, have been detained at the Regional Police Headquarters.
