Cracks Emerge in Roba–MAK Political Alliance

By Adan Mohamed,Mandera.

Senator Ali Roba’s assertion to Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif (MAK) that county resources are public property not the preserve of any individual is both factual and constitutionally sound,Mandera residents have said.

“County resources belong to the people, and their management must reflect public interest rather than personal or factional control,”they said.

However, beyond this principle, growing signs point to strain within what was once perceived as a solid political partnership.

As a one-term political arrangement, cracks are increasingly visible in the Roba–MAK alliance.

While Senator Roba previously invested significant political capital defending and promoting the Governor, tangible progress on development and governance now appears limited.

In practical terms, the momentum that once defined their cooperation seems to have stalled.

This stagnation has inevitably fueled internal tension and raised questions about the future of their political alignment.

As the old political adage goes, there are no permanent friends or permanent enemies in politics, only permanent interests.

Against this backdrop, it is not far fetched to speculate that Senator Roba may eventually chart a different political course, especially given the challenges currently facing the MAK administration.

Notably, Roba played a central role in Governor MAK’s victory in the last general election, mobilising support and shaping alliances that proved decisive.

With that contribution now seemingly undervalued and governance outcomes under scrutiny, a political realignment may be inevitable as each actor reassesses their long-term interests.
