Tension ran high in Migori on Thursday afternoon after rival groups of political supporters of Governor Ochilo Ayacko and Suna West MP Peter Masara clashed.
They caused the incident at a burial ceremony before violently storming Migori Police Station.
Police officers were forced to fire blanks and lob tear gas at them to restore order.

According to police the incident occured in the evening when in numbers and armed with rungus they arrived at the station while fighting each other, advancing up to the main gate.
Police officers established that the rival groups were supporters of Governor Ayacko and MP Masara, both of whom were present at the scene too.
Officers from Migori Police Station, with reinforcement from the Administration Police Service (APS), swiftly intervened and dispersed the groups using blank rounds and tear gas.
The officers managed to rescue both leaders from the hostile crowd and secure the station.
Investigations later revealed that the confrontation began earlier at a funeral function in Suna West where tensions between the two groups escalated into a physical altercation.
The leaders subsequently decided to report the matter at Migori Police Station, prompting their supporters to follow and the situation escalated into a riot.

After order was restored, Governor Ayacko recorded a formal complaint, stating that his supporters had been assaulted and his vehicles maliciously damaged.
However, MP Masara left the station without filing a report.
The two leaders later addressed the press before departing.
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Suna East, have taken over the probe.
