A coalition of university students in Nairobi, operating under the Nairobi Universities Comrades Chapter, has formally endorsed the presidential bid of Eliud Owalo.
They have cited his track record in public service and a policy agenda they say resonates with the aspirations of young Kenyans.
The endorsement was announced during a press conference held at Hazina Trade Centre, where student leaders pledged to mobilize youth and first time voters across the capital in support of Owalo’s candidacy.
Addressing the media, coalition representatives Maureen Nyambura, Emmanuel Nyota, Sheila Cheboron, and Derrick Jones outlined their commitment to advancing what they termed the “third liberation agenda,”
Anchored on economic empowerment, inclusive growth, and integrity in governance, the student leaders said their campaign efforts will focus on voter registration drives, grassroots mobilization, recruitment of members into Owalo’s political movement, and volunteer advocacy to popularize his policy vision, particularly among the youth.
They lauded Owalo’s tenure as Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, pointing to reforms and innovation driven initiatives they believe demonstrate his readiness for national leadership.
The coalition also expressed strong support for his pledge to introduce free primary and secondary education and to reform higher education financing, including bursary allocation and the operations of the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
According to the students, Owalo’s firm stance on zero tolerance for corruption further strengthens his appeal among young voters seeking accountable and transparent leadership.
The endorsement underscores the growing influence of university students in Kenya’s political discourse, with youth increasingly positioning themselves as key stakeholders in shaping national priorities on education, jobs, and governance.
