A tense moment unfolded on Saturday afternoon when a charging elephant briefly disrupted the popular Ten to Four Bicycle Race in Laikipia East.

Calm was restored by security at Simagwa Junction during the race, which began at Mount Kenya National Park and was set to conclude at Borana Conservancy.

The report was made by Charles Gilisho, a National Police Reservist (NPR) and Senior Warden with Ngare Ndare Forest Trust.

Gilisho stated that while he was on patrol overseeing officers assigned to secure the cycling event, a herd of eight elephants crossed near the junction.

One elephant reportedly charged towards a rider, prompting Gilisho to fire three rounds of ammunition into the air from his AK-47 rifle to scare the animal away.

The action successfully dispersed the elephants back into the forest.

Police confirmed that no cyclists, officers, or members of the public were injured, and the race continued without further incident.

Authorities praised the quick response, noting that the situation was handled professionally and prevented potential harm to both participants and wildlife.

The event was ltimately concluded safely and without casualties.
