An armed confrontation at an Airbnb facility in Mlolongo Township, Athi River in Machakos County, left two police officers injured after a suspect who is a Kenyatta University lecturer and seven others allegedly threatened civilians and officers with a firearm.
According to a police incident report filed at Mlolongo Police Station, the incident occurred on Tuesday night at around 7:20 pm at Apple Tree Apartments.
The matter was reported by Andrew Amoth, who alleged that the main suspect, identified as Booker Ngesa Omole, a 44 year old lecturer at Kenyatta University, had booked an Airbnb at the apartments.
The complainant stated that upon encountering the suspect and seven others allegedly smoking bhang, he attempted to inquire about the situation but was threatened with a gun.
Police officers responded to the scene and gained entry into the Airbnb after the suspect reportedly declined to open the door.
A search led to the recovery of a Glock pistol loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition in a magazine, and one spent cartridge.
Officers also recovered 10 rolls of bhang and eight half smoked rolls of the same substance.
During the arrest, two officers sustained injuries. Haron Ndungu suffered injuries to the upper jaw, chest, and testicles, while Johakim Wambua was injured on the right arm and chest.
Seven additional suspects were arrested inside the Airbnb, including both male and female adults of various ages.
All suspects were escorted to Mlolongo Police Station, while the firearm and recovered drugs were secured as exhibits.
Police confirmed that the suspects remain in custody and are expected to be arraigned in court on February 26, 2026.
A criminal case file has been opened, and investigations are ongoing under the direction of the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), Mlolongo.
