Busia KMTC shame that exposes a leadership failure

By Xavier Lugaga,Busia.

There are moments when the truth must be spoken plainly, even if it makes some leaders uncomfortable.

The situation surrounding the neglected Busia Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) is one such moment.

Anyone who visits the institution today cannot escape a disturbing impression: the facility resembles an abandoned factory rather than a vibrant training institution meant to nurture the next generation of health professionals.

Buildings appear neglected, the atmosphere is lifeless, and the promise that such an institution once held for the people of Matayos seems to have faded into disappointment.

What makes this situation even more troubling is the stark contrast between the state of the college and the enormous public resources that have flowed into the constituency over the years.

Since assuming office, the Matayos constituency has received well over Sh1.5 billion through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

With such significant funding, residents would reasonably expect transformative projects in education, health, and youth empowerment.

Yet the glaring question remains: where is the visible impact?

Institutions such as KMTC are not just buildings.

They represent opportunity.

They symbolize hope for young men and women who aspire to serve society as nurses, clinical officers, and other health professionals.

When such an institution stagnates or appears neglected, it is not just infrastructure that is failin,it is the dreams of an entire community.

Leadership is measured not by the length of time one stays in office but by the legacy one leaves behind.

For a constituency that has entrusted its representative with multiple terms in Parliament, expectations are naturally high.

People want to see development that reflects the magnitude of the resources allocated to their constituency.

Matayos residents must therefore begin asking serious and honest questions about accountability and priorities.

If billions of shillings have passed through the constituency’s development channels, the community deserves to know how those funds have been utilized and what tangible progress has been achieved.

Busia County is a region full of potential. Its youth are hardworking and ambitious.

Its strategic position as a border county gives it immense economic opportunities.

What it needs is leadership that channels public resources toward meaningful and visible development.

The neglect of key institutions like Busia KMTC should serve as a wake-up call.

It is not enough to hold office; leaders must deliver results that uplift the people they represent.

Ultimately, democracy provides citizens with the most powerful tool of all: the ability to demand accountability and to choose leaders who match their aspirations.

Busia deserves leadership that builds institutions, empowers youth, and transforms communities—not one that leaves behind empty promises and neglected public projects.
