13 Rifles Voluntarily Surrendered in West Pokot

13 AK-47 rifles have been voluntarily surrendered to police in West Pokot County.

According to police,the recovery is a significant breakthrough in the ongoing disarmament process.

The firearm owners voluntarily surrendered them in Alale area.

According to police, the exercise was coordinated by Kapotolomwo Location Chief Joshua Siteti, alongside assistant chiefs and National Police Reservists (NPR).

The surrendered cache included thirteen (13) AK-47 rifles, thirteen (13) magazines, and forty-two (42) rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition.

“The weapons were handed over voluntarily by residents from the area, reflecting growing cooperation between the community and security agencies.
Among those who surrendered firearms are Achomoi Lengole, Lopusingole Lokapel, Lotuliakong Poghishio, Losil Yaratome, Losiwareng Kapelile, Lodengo Kenya, Loitareng Losiliamoi, Amojong Lokwasil, Loluka Lonyang, Liliareng Longuraribo, Monyang Longolemwai, Lokwang Loitasiwa, and Pulot Loteko,”said Police in the area.

They confirmed too that all recovered firearms and ammunition are currently in safe custody and will be forwarded to the relevant security authorities for further analysis and action.

Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to sustained disarmament operations in the region, noting that such voluntary surrenders are a critical step towards restoring peace and stability in parts of North Rift that have historically faced insecurity linked to illegal firearms.The operation is ongoing.
