Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri Maina is among Kenya’s youngest legislators and one of its most closely watched emerging political figures.
She was elected in 2022 at the age of 28.
Jane is a trained lawyer who runs her own firm, Njeri Maina & Co. Advocates.

She has built a reputation as an outspoken advocate for youth and women’s rights, positioning herself as a rising voice in national politics.
Her political ambitions, however, date back several years.
In 2017, aged 23, she contested for the position of Speaker of the Kirinyaga County Assembly, finishing third.
The bid marked her first foray into elective leadership and set the stage for her eventual parliamentary run.
Away from politics,Jane’s entrepreneurial streak was evident during her time at the University of Nairobi’s School of Law.

To support herself, she ran an online mitumba (second hand clothing) business.
She would source garments from Nairobi’s Gikomba market at dawn, photograph them, and market them through her Facebook page, “Carolla Njeri Collections”,an early demonstration of her business acumen and drive.
Before entering politics, she also gained brief public attention as a video vixen in musician Bahati’s song “Najua,” a role that introduced her to a wider audience.

As a Member of Parliament,Jane has been active in legal advocacy, notably taking up pro bono cases for detained youths following the Saba Saba and Gen Z protests.
Her efforts earned her the Champion for Justice Award in 2025.
The woman representative policy interests include education reform, women’s leadership, and the promotion of peaceful political engagement.
Born in 1994 in Mugumo, Kirinyaga County, she began her education at Kiangoma Primary School and later attended Mugi Junior Academy.
From there, she proceeded to Kabare Girls High School before enrolling at the University of Nairobi to study law.
She was admitted to the bar as an Advocate of the High Court in 2019.

Her legal career spans several roles.
Between 2019 and 2021, she worked at Mathenge Wambugu & Advocates as Head of Litigation, and at Moraa Omoke Law Firm as Head of Legal Research.
She previously served as a pupil and legal assistant at Lilian Amere & Co. Advocates between 2018 and 2019.
Earlier, in 2014, she worked as a legal research assistant at Kiambu Law Courts and interned at Amadi & Associates Advocates, a firm associated with former Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi.
She was elected on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket with 175,001 votes, defeating several established figures, including former County Assembly Speaker Anne Githinji and former County Director of Administration Shujaa Rose Wachira.

In Parliament, she has aligned herself closely with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, notably standing by him during his impeachment battle.
She has since maintained her support and signaled her intention to defend her seat in the 2027 general election under the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) banner.
More recently,Jane has drawn national attention following remarks that sparked internal tensions within the DCP.

She publicly accused the party’s deputy leader, former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, of allegedly acting as a political “mole” for President William Ruto and the ruling establishment.
She further alleged that Malala had, at Golden Palm Hotel in Murang’a, met with a group of Members of County Assembly from Kirinyaga aligned to Governor Anne Waiguru, a known critic of both Gachagua and the DCP party.
