Perpetrators of the heinous act—captured in broad daylight—believed to be aides of a senior Trans Nzoia politician, are reportedly roaming freely in Kitale and its surrounding areas after attacking members of the press.
Members of the media fraternity, alongside human rights activists, are now questioning the police over delays in arresting the suspects and recording their statements.
Media practitioners in Kitale are also considering imposing a total blackout on the elected leader whose aides are alleged to have carried out the attack. They say the move is aimed at compelling a public apology, while also serving as a warning to other potential perpetrators, especially as the country heads into the campaign period ahead of next year’s General Election.
