A suspected ambush targeting a Member of County Assembly (MCA) has been reported in Mandera County after armed assailants opened fire on his vehicle along the Lafey–Mandera road.

The incident which occured yesterday has heightened security concerns in the volatile region.

According to a police report filed at Mandera Police Station, the incident was reported by the MCA Adan Hossein himself whi was driving from Lafey towards Mandera town.

Upon reaching a lagga near Omarjillo Trading Center, he was flagged down by two men dressed in civilian clothing, one of whom was armed with an AK-47 rifle.

Sensing danger in an area known for frequent Al-Shabaab activity, the MCA declined to stop and instead sped off.

The assailants responded by firing four shots at his vehicle as he fled the scene.

Police confirmed that no injuries were reported and the vehicle did not sustain any visible damage.

A multi-agency security team later visited the scene, conducted a search, and documented the area, but no spent cartridges were recovered.

The attack underscores the persistent insecurity along sections of the Mandera corridor, where security forces continue to remain on high alert due to threats posed by militant groups operating near the Kenya-Somalia border.
