AIG Opiyo Among Officers Involved in Highway Crash Near Kenol

Three senior police officers sustained minor injuries on Saturday night after two official government vehicles were involved in a road traffic accident along the Sagana–Kenol Highway in Murang’a County.

The accident occurred at about 10.19 p.m. near Kwa Muthike area when a government owned Volkswagen Tiguan reportedly rammed into the rear of a Subaru Forester also belonging to the government, after the leading vehicle slowed down at speed bumps.

According to a police report, the Subaru was being driven by Constable (Driver) Brian Dacha and was carrying Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Philip Opiyo (addressing the press in a file picture) who also doubles up as the Director of Operations in the Kenya Police Service.

The Volkswagen was driven by Constable (Driver) Timothy Muchai and had on board AIG Titi Ayiera, Director of Legal Affairs, and Sharon Kigen, Chief Economist at Police Headquarters.

Following the collision, AIG Titi Ayiera, Muchai and Sharon sustained chest injuries.

AIG Opiyo and driver Brian Dacha escaped unhurt.

The injured were rushed to Nairobi West Hospital, where they were treated and reported to be in stable condition.

Police officers visited the scene and commenced investigations.

The Volkswagen sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene, while the Subaru was driven to Makuyu Police Station pending inspection.
