Police in Kirinyaga County have launched investigations after unknown suspects broke into an Airtel booster site in Kianyaga Township and stole 226 litres of diesel intended for a standby generator.
The incident was reported at Kianyaga Police Station on Monday by Airtel technician James Onjiru.
The booster station is located near General Kassam Stadium.
According to police, the suspects gained access to the premises by cutting through the razor wire before siphoning 226 litres of diesel from the standby generator.
Officers who visited the scene recovered two yellow jerrycans half-filled with water and two hose pipes coated with diesel, which are believed to have been used during the theft.
Investigators suspect the thieves intended to refill the generator tank with water to delay the discovery of the theft.
Preliminary investigations point to a possible inside job involving security guards contracted to protect the facility, as no alarm was raised during the break-in.
The scene was documented and the recovered exhibits secured for forensic examination.
Police have classified the case as pending under investigation and are pursuing leads to identify and arrest those responsible.
