Manasseh is often remembered as one of Judah’s most rebellious kings, a man who ignored divine warnings until he found himself in chains.
It is easy to judge Manasseh, but how often do we do the same? We feel the “nudge” of the Holy Spirit—a prompting to forgive, a call to integrity, or a whisper to slow down—and we choose to look the other way. We prioritize our own desires over God’s direction, often leading us into our own version of “chains.”
However, the story doesn’t end in the dungeon. When Manasseh finally humbled himself, God showed him radical mercy. This verse serves as a powerful reminder: God’s voice is an invitation to grace before it is a call to discipline. He speaks because He desires restoration, not just retribution.
Listen for the “Still, Small Voice” today. Identify one area of your life where you have been ignoring God’s prompting. Instead of waiting for a “prison house” moment to change, take one small, humble step of obedience right now. Whether it’s a difficult conversation or a change in habit, choose to pay attention.
