Tension rocked Embu town after rioters attacked a vehicle attached to the Deputy President’s communication team along the Embu-Meru highway near the Old Stadium yesterday.
The protesters damaged the car and stole media equipment during the incident.
According to a police made at Embu Police Station,the incident occurred at around 10am as the team was travelling to Tharaka Nithi for official duties.
The report was made by the vehicle driver a police officer Timothy Kiragu, who stated that he was driving a government vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner registration number GKB 021V, assigned to the Deputy President, when the group came under attack from rowdy rioters within Embu Town.

Inside the vehicle were Inspector Daniel Ndatho Mungai together with videographers David Mwenda and Daniel Mungai, as well as camerawoman Phoebe Okal all attached to the Deputy President’s communication department.
Police said the attackers hurled stones at the vehicle, smashing both the front and rear windscreens before raiding the car and stealing a bag belonging to one of the videographers.
The stolen bag reportedly contained camera chargers, camera batteries and personal clothing.
Despite the violent attack and destruction, no injuries were reported among the occupants of the vehicle.
Police have since launched investigations into the incident as efforts to identify and arrest the attackers continue.
