A section of serving and former higher learning institutions student leaders have issued a joint statement opposing tomorrow’s planned country wide demonstrations marking GenZ’s second anniversary.
The student among them Zadock Nyakwaka (ex Secretary General Kenyatta University),Calvin Kowang from Kenyatta University school of law) and Ker Abich from Mount Kenya university urged young people across the country to shun street protests and instead focus on constitutional means of pursuing change.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, the leaders argued that previous demonstrations had resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of property, warning that fresh protests could lead to similar consequences.
They described the planned demonstrations as unnecessary, noting that the 2027 General Election is fast approaching and offers Kenyans an opportunity to express their democratic choices through the ballot.
The leaders called on youths to channel their energy towards mass voter registration, civic education, and voter sensitization campaigns aimed at strengthening democratic participation and holding leaders accountable through constitutional processes.
They further maintained that no nation has ever achieved sustainable progress through chaos and unrest, emphasizing the need for peace, stability, and constructive engagement in addressing national challenges.
The student leaders also encouraged young people and “comrades” across the country to prioritize nation-building initiatives, economic empowerment, innovation, and entrepreneurship as key drivers of Kenya’s development.
