Firearm stolen from ex Tigania East MP Gichunge MP bodyguard recovered in Nairobi Supermarket

A firearm reported lost by an Administration Police officer attached to former Togania East MP Josphat Gichunge in Nairobi’s Central Business District has been recovered.

It was recovered under mysterious circumstances, days after it disappeared from a barber shop along Mukhtar Daddah Street.

The Ceska pistol belonging to Sergeant Amos Kimathi of the Administration Police VIP Unit, was recovered today at a Naivas Supermarket luggage holding area inside Development House along Moi Avenue.

The recovery follows an intensive investigation launched after the officer reported the loss of the weapon at Central Police Station on May 25.

According to police reports, detectives from the DCI at Central police station led by the Deputy DCIO acted on intelligence received from Nairobi Area DCI Regional Headquarters and rushed to the supermarket where the firearm was found concealed inside a Carrefour branded carrier bag.

The weapon had been wrapped in two additional red and blue carrier bags and hidden among fruits.

Police established that the firearm was still secured in its holster and the magazine remained intact.

However, a subsequent examination revealed that the magazine contained 13 rounds of ammunition, two rounds fewer than the 15 rounds reportedly loaded in the weapon when it went missing.

Investigators reviewing CCTV footage discovered that on May 28, 2026, at approximately 1:37 p.m., an unidentified individual whose face was concealed deposited the bag containing the firearm at the supermarket’s luggage storage area before leaving.

The identity and whereabouts of the suspect remain unknown.

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers processed the scene and collected forensic evidence as part of ongoing investigations.

The recovered firearm has since been placed in safe police custody pending further investigations aimed at identifying the person who abandoned it and accounting for the two missing rounds of ammunition.
