Police have arrested four people and recovered a shotgun, a Beretta pistol and assorted ammunition after intercepting a vehicle suspected to have been involved in terrorising motorists at gunpoint in Mtito Andei.

The incident occurred on Sunday after DCI officers in Mtito Andei alerted their counterparts in Voi about a suspicious vehicle carrying four occupants reportedly armed with weapons.

The occupants were linked to an incident in which people travelling in a Volkswagen Jetta, registration GKB 455S, belonging to the Public Service Commission and heading towards Mombasa, were reportedly threatened at gunpoint.

The vehicle, driven by Kipchumba Cheserek, with Faith Wambui on board, was reportedly intercepted after the suspects drove towards Voi.

DCI officers from Voi pursued the vehicle while Maungu police mounted a barrier, leading to its interception in the Maungu area.

Those arrested were identified as Dennis Kibet Nyamu, Collins Metro, Dennis Kimutai Sang and Nasra Kibet.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a shotgun with eight rounds of ammunition, 21 rounds of buckshot ammunition and a Beretta pistol loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition.

Police also recovered assorted clothing from the vehicle.

The scene was processed and documented, while the recovered firearms and ammunition were secured pending collection by the Officer Commanding DCI Mtito Andei.

The four suspects were released and are scheduled to appear before the OC DCI Mtito Andei on September 25, 2026, as investigations continue.
