Police in Homa Bay county have arrested a suspected boda boda rider linked to the rape and robbery of a 21 year-old female student from Tom Mboya University.
The victim informed police at Homabay police station that she boarded a motorcycle from Central SDA heading towards Lwala when the rider diverted it from the expected route, claiming the motorcycle had run out of fuel.
He instead rode towards the Catholic area and veered off to a secluded path behind La Salle School.
At the isolated location, the suspect reportedly stopped the motorcycle, confiscated the victim’s mobile phone (Realme C35), and threatened to return it after assaulting her.
The victim was then overpowered, forced to the ground, and raped before the suspect fled with her phone.
Police visited the scene and recovered a used condom believed to be linked to the incident.
A suspect has since been arrested and is expected to undergo DNA analysis as part of ongoing investigations.
