Police in Kisumu have launched investigations into an alleged illegal abortion incident involving a Grade nine school girl in the Nyawita area within Kisumu Central.
According to a report filed at Obunga Police Station, the incident was reported by Nyawita Assistant Chief Ruth after receiving information that the minor had allegedly undergone an abortion procedure at a local clinic.
A police team from Obunga responded to the scene and arrested four suspects, among them the girl’s mother identified as Lincy Akinyi, the alleged clinic owner Irine Moraa, and two other individuals identified as Mary Caren and MVU who is said to be the victim.
Police said the medic suspected to have conducted the abortion escaped and remains at large.
During the operation, officers reportedly confiscated several licences and certificates bearing the name “Stops Medical Clinic” as part of the ongoing investigations.
All the suspects are currently being held as investigations.
