A postmortem examination has revealed that a 31 year old deaf woman whose body was recovered in Kwale County died after being strangled, assaulted, and sexually abused.
Local police are treating the as murder.
The deceased was positively identified as Mejumaa Mwaguni Saidi, from Kinango and an employee at a hair salon in Kwale town.
She was identified by her brothers, Saidi Mwaguni and Ngoka Mungumi, following the recovery of her body earlier this month.
According to police, a postmortem conducted at Kwale County Referral Hospital Mortuary by government pathologist Dr. Meleki established that the cause of death was asphyxia resulting from neck compression consistent with manual strangulation.
The examination also revealed blunt force trauma to the head and chest, as well as evidence of sexual assault.
Investigators collected vaginal swab samples for forensic DNA analysis as part of efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killing.
Following the examination, the body was released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
The case remains under investigation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Matuga, with police pursuing leads to establish the circumstances surrounding the brutal killing.
