A section of traders from Kamenu Ward in Thika, Kiambu County, are demanding a refund of Sh3.5 million from their area Member of County Assembly (MCA), Peter Mburu alleging that they contributed the money to facilitate the allocation of trading shades that were being constructed by the county government.

The traders, led by former Kamenu Ward MCA Elizabeth Muthoni Wambui, claimed that 71 traders each contributed Sh50,000 in December 2023 after being promised access to the trading structures.
According to the traders, despite making the payments, they have neither received the trading shades nor been refunded their money.
They further accused the MCA of denying ever receiving the funds.

The aggrived traders are now calling on the MCA to reimburse the entire amount, arguing that their efforts to seek an amicable resolution have not yielded results.
However, when contacted for comment, Mburu dismissed the allegations as politically motivated and challenged the accusers to provide evidence supporting their claims.
“They should provide statements. These claims are very false and politically driven. Allegations must be backed by evidence. If anyone gave me money, let them produce M-Pesa or bank statements showing the transaction,” said Mburu.
