A police officer attached to Kombani Patrol Base in Kwale County is recovering in hospital after he was assaulted during a dispute over unpaid rent.
The incident also saw household items reportedly stolen from his residence.
According to police reports, the incident occurred yesterday at around noon at Kombani Market when Police Constable Dan Kibet and his wife, Shiro Gitau, were confronted by their landlady over two months’ rent arrears amounting to Sh12,000.
The landlady was reportedly accompanied by three young men who allegedly identified themselves as Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers.
The group a demanded immediate payment of the rent or that the couple vacate the house.
A confrontation ensued, during which Kibet was reportedly attacked and sustained injuries to the head and right leg.
The suspects are also said to have taken several household items, including a 43-inch LG television set, a sound bar and a 12 kilogram gas cylinder.
Police officers responded to the scene and recovered several items believed to be linked to the incident, including a green headgear, two pairs of ladies’ shoes and a green blunt pipe.
Four suspects were arrested and are assisting police with investigations.
They include Hussein Ali, Shahibu Mohamed, Hamisi Masitu and Fatuma Mwinyi.
Kibet was initially treated at Bashan Medical Centre in Kombani before being referred to Diani Beach Hospital for specialized treatment.
A follow up report indicated that he was admitted to the facility and was awaiting further head scan examinations.
Medical personnel reported that he was in stable condition as investigations into the incident continue.
