Police have arrested a suspect they described as a notorious criminal accused of terrorising members of the public in Nairobi’s Central Business District by allegedly threatening to inject them with an unknown substance while demanding money and valuables.
According to a police report, officers from Central Police Station conducted an operation in the Archives area on Saturday, leading to the arrest of 35-year-old Alphas Ashirafu.
Police said the suspect was armed with a syringe fitted with a needle containing an unidentified substance.
He is accused of harassing pedestrians and demanding cash and other valuables while threatening to inject them if they failed to comply.
The suspect was arrested without incident and taken to Central Police Station, where he was booked pending further investigations.
Police said the recovered syringe and its contents will be subjected to forensic analysis to establish the nature of the substance.
Ashirafu is expected to face several charges, including demanding by menaces and preparation to commit a felony.
Investigations is ongoing before he is presented in court.
