Man dies after bar fight in Kantafu

A murder investigation has been launched in Matungulu, Machakos County, following the death of a 29 year old man who died following injuries he sustained during a violent altercation at a local bar.

According to a report filed at KBC Police Station yesterday evening,the incident was reported by Simon Musyoka Kimwele, a businessman from Eastleigh, Nairobi.

Kimwele told police that on the night of May 20 while at his residence, he received information from one Paul Mutembei from Kantafu area concerning the death of his younger brother, Hosea Kamau Kimwele.

Police reports indicate that during the night between May 16 and 17 Hosea and Paul were drinking at Matuu Bar in the area when they were confronted by a group led by a man identified only as Njoroge alongside several other individuals from Kantafu Village.

The group reportedly demanded that the two buy them drinks, leading to a confrontation that quickly escalated into a fight.

During the altercation, Hosea sustained serious injuries to the head and chest.

He was rushed to Kangundo Sub-County Level 4 Hospital for treatment but later succumbed to the injuries on May 18, 2026, while receiving medical attention.

Police said no relatives or guardians had visited the victim or formally reported the incident until May 21, when Simon travelled to Kangundo Hospital, identified the body at the mortuary, and confirmed the death.

Officers from KBC Police Station visited the hospital as investigations commenced.
