Man dies by suicide at in-laws over dispute with wife

A man aged 34 years old man has died by suicide after jumping off a cliff in Kaptama Location, Mt. Elgon, Bungoma County.

According to a police report filed at Kaptama Police Station yesterday night, the incident was reported by Assistant Chief Edwin Tendese of Kaptama Location.

He informed officers that the tragedy occurred in Kupchiro Village.

Police officers from the station, alongside detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mt. Elgon, visited the scene and found the body of Kelvin Kiprotich Kitoo lying at his father-in-law’s homestead.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had separated from his wife, Elizabeth Cherotich, and had gone to her home in an attempt to reconcile.

However, a disagreement reportedly arose between them, after which the man climbed a nearby cliff estimated to be about 100 meters high and jumped.

Police documented the scene and moved the body to Kimilili Delight Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.
